Tile Roof Repair
Roof tiles can break or be damaged at any time but this does not mean that you have to change the whole roof. Instead, you can only repair to the damaged tiles and your roof will still offer total shelter just like it did when new. Therefore, to avoid the expenses of changing all the roof tiles when only a few are damaged, I am going to take you through a step by step process on how you can repair the tiles.
First, you require the following materials: hammer, pry bars, trowel, caulk gum, mortar, copper strap, RT-600 tile roof sealer, copper nails and replacement tiles.
Then identify if the whole tile needs to be replaced or part of it to be fixed. If only part of it has to be fixed maybe due to a small crack, then use RT-600 in the caulk gum to place a layer of tile roof sealer into the crack.
If the whole tile has to be replaced, you have to start by removing the tile. Slide the pry bar under the top right tile above the one that is to be removed. Next, slide another bar under the tile on the left of the tile to be replaced. You can now gently remove the tile by sliding it out; rarely will you find nailed roof tiles.
After removing the tile, you can now slowly slide the new tile into place and ensure that it is securely held. You can add some mortar at the ages of the tile to act as a watertight seal.
You can now gently remove the pry bars starting with the lower left one and then the upper right one.
You can smash the removed tile with the hammer and dispose the wreckage appropriately.
There are also some precautions you should take when doing the repair including:
Repair the roof tiles on a sunny day
Avoid a slippery roof
You should be very careful when walking across a roof to avoid cracking other tiles.
You should work with somebody; just in case something uncertain happens
I believe you now know how easily a roof tile can be fixed or replaced. However, if you see it difficult or if you are afraid of climbing on the roof to do the repair, there are very many roof specialists who can do the job for you. So do not be disappointed by the leaking roofs, instead make the repairs by yourself by following the above mentioned easy to follow steps.
